HTML5 / CSS3 Demo

Some Examples

Remember way back in the early days of the web how websites were littered with scrolling, blinking or brightly coloured text? It was grossly overused and looked terrible, but that is all the decoration that was available. Now we can do better.

HTML is structured so that everything fits into rectangular boxes on your screen. It works great for laying out the contents of a web page, but it looks rather boring, don't you think?

So how about adding a little bit of STYLE to these boxes. To achieve these effects previously we have had to use numerous images for the background, box shadow and rounded corners. No longer - this box uses only plain straightforward text coding.

Most people start experiencing difficulty in reading text when the lines are too long - that is why newspapers and magazines divide their pages into COLUMNS. Can you imagine trying to read the Sunday Times if everything was printed in long lines spanning the full width of the page. It would be difficult, to say the least!

Laying out text in columns has never been available on the web - until now that is. Oh yes, we've resorted to various tricks like using separate boxes lined up side-by side, or using tables with a row of cells, but any change in the content means that the text has to be manually re-distributed between the boxes.

Now we can use columns on our web pages too!

More Examples

  • The animated text in "More Examples" above uses purely CSS3 text effects, no images or Flash players are required. (Move your cursor over the text to see what happens.)
  • Did you notice the video on our home page of a plane taking off? You've probably seen many videos on the internet, so what's new about that...? Typically, a video requires an external Flash player to view it, whereas this video is played directly in the browser without using any external programs.

Putting a new slant on life

Have you ever seen a tilted text box in a magazine? Sure, you have, it's very common in fact. But on a web page? Well, the only way we could do that before is by creating the box in a graphics program, tilt it, and save it as a picture. Okay, so now you want to change the text in the box - back to the graphics program, redo everything, save it as a new picture... You get the message.

To see how easy it is now try typing in this box!

Still not convinced?

Then consider the following:

  • The new browsers are quick and easy to download
  • Quick, easy and safe installation - does not interfere with any other programs
  • Fast program startup
  • Your websites will load and display more quickly
  • Much improved security
  • All browsers are free to download and free to use

Download one of the modern browsers and try it for yourself.
Go on, do yourself a favour!
